Brixton Wings Shines at 2024 LYG Indoor Rowing Competition
We are thrilled to share the fantastic achievements of our Brixton Wings participants at the 2024 London Youth Games (LYG) Indoor Rowing Competition, held on the 9th of June. The LYG Indoor Rowing competition features exciting individual and relay races that get both participants and spectators' hearts pumping.
A total of eight dedicated participants from Brixton Wings gave their best efforts in their respective categories. We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our young athletes, Duvar, secured a gold medal in the Year 8 three-minute race. Duvar's triumph is a testament to his hard work, determination, and the comprehensive support he receives from our programs.
Reflecting on his victory, Duvar expressed how good it felt to win and shared that he wanted to dedicate the medal to his mum. Duvar’s success is rooted in his regular attendance at the weekly indoor rowing sessions held at the Brixton Recreation Centre. These sessions are designed to prepare our young athletes for events like the LYG Indoor Rowing competition and are part of Duvar's broader engagement with Brixton Wings' programs.
Beyond his rowing prowess, Duvar is also an avid music enthusiast. He regularly attends our music sessions, where he practices the guitar. Interestingly, Duvar mentioned that the influence of Brazilian Funk music gives him a boost when preparing for his indoor rowing sessions. This blend of athletic and musical training highlights the holistic approach we take at Brixton Wings to nurture diverse talents and interests in our young people.
We are immensely proud of Duvar and all our participants for their hard work and dedication. Their achievements not only bring pride to Brixton Wings but also serve as an inspiration to their peers.
